The BOLD & The BRAVE take on political issues… and share passionate speeches at the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

While protests are happening across the nation–over President Trump’s immigration ban…

🌟Stars in Hollywood also turned the spotlight on politics… speaking out against the executive order Sunday… at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards… was simulcast live nationwide on TNT and TBS… Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017.

Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) recognize outstanding performances in film and primetime television. Out of ALL the Awards shows… this event is special… because it is ALL about ACTORS…honoring other ACTORS!  A high honor indeed… to be celebrated by peers…

The  statuette given, a nude male figure holding both a mask of comedy and a mask of tragedy, is called “The Actor”. It is 16 inches (41 cm) tall, weighs over 12 pounds (5.4 kg), is cast in solid bronze, and produced by the American Fine Arts Foundry in Burbank, California.

Newsflash! 📸 Folks are pretty sure hot button 🕹political issues will spark more demonstrations…

Cut to Hollywood.. where Actors are choosing to also express themselves in BOLD WAYS!

Big Bang Theory star Simon Helberg and his wife, Jocelyn Towne, made a political style statement with a sign reading, “Refugees welcome” and “Let them in” written on Towne’s chest.

Almost every actor walking the red carpet… appearing on stage in the show…and speaking to the press backstage… had something very passionate to say.

Ashton Kutcher opened the show saying: “Good evening, fellow SAG-AFTRA members, and everyone at home, and everyone in airports that belong in my America,” he said. “You are a part of the fabric of who we are. And we love you and we welcome you.”

Sarah Paulson, from the People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story even encouraged viewers to support the ACLU… during her acceptance speech…

Actors, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the cast of “Orange Is the New Black,” took the time to call out President Trump… on his signed executive order…

While most of the Award’s night focused on the political climate… and recent developments around the world…there were a few SURPRISE wins… that catapulted the aggressive energy of the night… to an even higher levels!

William Macy  won for “Shameless” admitting he knew it was definitely a SURPRISE WIN…to some… like

(( Jeffrey Tambor)) who has won awards numerous times….

Macy was most gracious in his speech… thanking many… including his lovely wife…Felicity Huffman... who was also nominated for a SAG AWARD this year.

He also said to actors…. “If you ever get a chance to work on “SHAMELESS” Do it!!!! It a great show… with a great cast & crew!”

((( snaps fingers))) 👉🏽 Well all-RIGHT Mr. Macy!!!! I HEARD THAT!!!!! 👂🏽
David Harbour got a standing ovation during the Awards show! He gave a very passionate speech… getting some very interesting facial reactions from his co-star…Winona Ryder…

Ryder stood next to Harbour on stage… while the rest of the cast intently listened… and watched.

Harbour accepted the award for the Stranger Things cast... winning their first SAG award for Outstanding Performance By an Ensemble in a Drama Series, Harbour plays detective Jim Hopper in the Netflix series.

Harbour thanked NETFLIX… and then really got deep…..

“I would like to say that in light of all that’s going on in the world today, it’s difficult to celebrate.”

They already celebrated Stranger Things… but this award means to take your craft seriously… and believe that great acting can change the world, it’s a call to arms from our fellow craftsmen and women to go deeper and battle against fear, self-centeredness, exclusivity. Cultivate a more empathetic and understanding society by revealing intimate truths that serve as a forceful reminder to folks that we may feel broken and afraid and tired, they are not alone.

We are united and that we are all human beings and we are all together on this horrible, painful, joyous, exciting and mysterious ride that is being alive.”

The crowd couldn’t agree more with Harbours  sentiments…

In another… Ah ha moment…

Bryan Cranston surprised a lot of people winning in a tight race…for Outstanding Performance in a TV Movie or Limited Series..

Most people were betting on Sterling K. Brown or Courtney B. Vance from People v. O.J. Simpson…since both actors have already won a number of awards for their performances

Cranston earned the honor… portraying “LBJ” –President Lyndon B. Johnson in the HBO movie “All the Way.”

Even with so much negativity in the world….Cranston said the SAG Awards are important because they “celebrate” creativity.

“This is what artists do best,” Cranston said to members of the press. “We take the anguish, anxiety and fear and put it back into work. And hopefully, the creative groundswell will lead to compassion and acceptance.”

Denzel Washington was also shocked… and pleasantly surprised for his win!!! This is his very FIRST SAG AWARD!!!

Bravo Denzel!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Your performance in FENCES was powerful! 👊🏽 ( and very WELL Deserved… I might add! 😉)

The Fences actor… and director of the film…won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture…and accepted the award by admitting he really didn’t believe in himself.

“Thank you very much,” he began. “You know, I am a God-fearing man. I’m supposed to have faith, but I didn’t have faith. God bless you all, all the other actors. I’d say, ‘You know, young boys are going to win, you ain’t going to win.’ So I didn’t even prepare. But I am prepared!”

He went on to give more heartfelt tributes… “Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Eugene O’Neill, Edward Albee, August Wilson, first,” he said thanking the original American playwrights. He then went on to thank his cast and crew before expressing his excitement and gratitude…. he ended by saying two words… “Viola. Davis.” –Washington’s co-star in the fences stage production… and film…

Viola Davis  also won a SAG AWARD for her awesome performance in the film as well… Viola snagged the actor for the Best supporting female actress… in a supporting role…

In the final award of the 2017 SAG Awards, the cast of Hidden Figures won for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The entire viewing audience collectively cheered as the movie’s title was called… and the Cast was visibly excited! I cried after watching the 🎥 movie… and she’d more tears of JOY when they WON!!!

Closing out the night, Taraji P. Henson championed diversity and tolerance as she accepted the outstanding ensemble prize for Hidden Figures, which tells the true story of three African-American women at NASA who were instrumental in launching astronaut John Glenn into space.

“This story is of unity, this story is about what happens when we put our differences aside and come together as a human race,” Henson said. “We win. Love wins, every time.”

The SAG Life Achievement Award is the newest addition to Tomlin’s outstanding collection of honors, which includes a 2014 Kennedy Center Award, the 2003 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, two Peabody Awards, multiple Emmys  (including this year’s Lead Comedy Actress nomination), numerous American Comedy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Grammy, a Writers Guild of America Award and both the Crystal Award and the Lucy Award from Women in Film.

I enjoyed a wonderful evening with my fellow actors… watching the 2017 SAG AWARDS… at a viewing party!

The well attended event was held at the Saban Theater… in Beverly Hills…

Actors were treated to snacks including popcorn 🍿 & drinks… while lots of prizes were raffled off in between commercial breaks…

A good time was had by ALL… (((especially me…😃)))

I’m a proud member of SAG-AFTRA … since 1985!

I’m always excited to see the outstanding productions nominated every year… and VOTE in each award category…

I’m very confident about my selections… but I still believe everyone nominated is a WINNER!!!

Soooo…. only a -few- actors actually get to take home awards… but -ALL- the actors nominated have great support from their peers…standing firmly with them… in solidarity!!! —and in Hollywood… that really means something!
