On Art & History: An intriguing story about the early days of Tuskegee Airmen ✈️”Fly”

I was “thrilled” to catch a wonderful performance of #Fly -> by Ricardo Khan & Trey Ellis
“Fly” ✈️ is a staged reading about the first black pilots πŸ›«πŸ›«πŸ›«πŸ›«in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ military –also known as the #Tuskegee airmen.

The play uses four characters– Chet, from Harlem, W.W., from Chicago; Oscar, from Iowa; and J. Allen, originally from the West Indies… who represent the varied backgrounds of the men who went through Tuskegee’s training. Not all graduating from flight school… or…surviving the war.

This staged reading also features a fantastic all male cast.  Some of the actors portray white men- instructors and pilots– who questioned the idea of black pilots flying in America’s military.

The first African-American pilots were part of the 332nd Fighter Group of the United States Army Air Forces.  These pilots  were known as the “Tuskegee Airmen” because the name was taken from TUSKEGEE, ALABAMA… location of the training school where they earned their wings.

A tap griot –accented the production with the artistic #expression of #dance !!!

Omar Edwards keep the momentum “flying high” with his crafty tap dance moves…This form of movement worked extremely well in the storytelling process.

Other members of the outstanding cast of “Fly” include:

David Pegram

Robert Karma Robinson

Terrell Wheeler

Yaegel Welch

Ross Cowen

Omar Edwards

Anthony Goes

Brandon Nagle

The show took place Saturday, March 11,2017…at (nmaahc) — The National Museum of African American History and Culture, Washington, DC  in the #oprahwinfrey #theater @nmaahc

The “Fly” stage cast members also perform year round for schools, and other special presentations all across the world!

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance… and was pleased to see the show in one of the FINEST museums in the 🌎 WORLD… in “state of the art” theater named in honor of “Oprah Winfrey!!!!”

The NMAAHC also includes artifacts, uniforms, photos and even a PLANE flown by the celebrated Tuskegee Airmen.

I’m very GLAD that TUSKEGEE AIRMEN have been HONORED in so many ways over the years…

They experienced tremendous hardships to qualify for the flight program…graduate… and faithfully serve in the segregated armed forces.

These men were sharp, smart and went over and beyond the call of duty to prove themselves… in each and every mission.

A conversation with the cast, and playwrights..followed the staged reading.

It included Q& A’s… and more interesting details about the history of Tuskegee airman, cast members… and their interpretations of the characters they portrayed in the show.

Two distinguished Tuskegee airmen attended the performance of “Fly” at NMAAHC…and were celebrated with a standing ovation from the audience.

In addition to films, and plays… Tuskegee airman have been honored with numerous awards, special locations named in their honor… and even a float in the Rosebowl parade!

Singing:🎀🎡🎢 “Straighten up and fly right!!!” 🎢 –and soar into the wide wide world of research!!!

There are lots of other great documentaries, theatrical films, and historic videos available on TUSKEGEE AIRMEN.

You can also πŸ’€ zoooom ✈️ into your local bookstore…and read MORE about these great American Heroes! Plenty of πŸ“š Books are out there… just waiting to land in your lap!
